What is EXIF steganography?

EXIF steganography hides data inside image metadata fields (like camera info, GPS, comments) instead of modifying pixels. The image looks completely normal — only the metadata contains hidden information.

Which method should I use?

UserComment is recommended for most uses — it has 64KB capacity and uses AES-256 encryption. For large files use XMP. For maximum stealth with tiny payloads (up to 8 bytes), use GPS coordinates.

Will social media strip my hidden data?

Most platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) strip EXIF data for privacy. Email attachments and direct file sharing preserve it. For social media, use pixel-based steganography instead.

Is EXIF steganography detectable?

EXIF fields are easily readable by forensic tools. However, encrypted payloads appear as random data. The GPS method is hardest to detect as coordinates look normal. Use AES encryption for best security.

Thumbnail replacement appends your payload after the embedded thumbnail's JPEG end marker — invisible when the thumbnail renders, but recoverable from the raw EXIF thumbnail bytes. Both are Forensic-mode, high-capacity methods most viewers never inspect.
